SCONC is a professional organization founded in April 2007. We provide fellowship and networking among folks who bring science to the public. We include science writers, journalists, public information officers, teachers and institutional communicators from academia, government labs, industry, museums and schools just about anyone interested in communicating science. Ours is a big-tent organization.
Where do we go from here...
For the future, SCONC is looking at ways to better coordinate and communicate events, professional opportunities, and scientific lectures. We are also planning to provide social opportunities for SCONC members gather with colleagues from North Carolina institutions and organizations. Long term we'd like to provide mentoring opportunities for those interested in careers in scientific communication and also to provide professional development opportunities.
