Understanding the Viral Lifecycle
What exactly is a virus? How do we become infected with a virus and transmit it to others? How can we develop effective anti-viral therapies? In our February TRUtalk, Calvin Yeager, a PhD candidate at UNC Chapel Hill, answers all of these questions and more!
TRUtalks is a science outreach series that aims to make science accessible to the public. Once a month, at TRU Deli & Wine Bar in Chapel Hill, we host a scientist in order to allow them to bring their research to a diverse audience. It is our belief that science is too often communicated only to a PhD-level audience. In this era of public misinterpretation and general mistrust of science, it is incredibly important to bring current scientific findings to a wider audience. At TRUtalks, we gear our talks to the non-specialist public, helping to disseminate key research topics across a broad population. Talks are only 20-30 minutes long and are followed by an extended Q&A session that is meant to encourage audience interaction with the scientist.
