THE SCONCIES: SCONC’S ANNUAL SCICOMM CONTEST

Save the date for the fourth annual SCONCies awards gala on Thursday, October 10th, 2024!

The SCONCies is our science communication contest for members to submit their best examples of work that helps entertain and explain research. We collect submissions of all kinds — from writing to animation and illustration to photo and video — across two categories: institutional and journalism. Then, we announce the winners at our annual gala, a black-and-white cocktail event for all members to celebrate our local SciComm community.

The call for submissions will open in August. Stay tuned for more info later this summer!

SCONC CONFERENCE GRANTS

The deadline for the 2024 SCONC Conference Grants has passed. Join SCONC today to apply for next year!

We offer SCONC conference grants to help our members participate in professional development conferences like NASW, AAAS, and Science Talk. These grants can be used to offset registration or travel fees, help attendees acquire technical support or boost bandwidth for virtual events, and/or assist with caregiving costs. What’s covered:

Provides up to $1500 to attend a conference during this calendar year. Conferences must focus, in full or in part, on science communication.  

Eligibility:

You must be a dues-paying SCONC member to apply. You may apply for SCONC funding immediately upon becoming a member.

Keeping with our pledge to promote a diverse workforce, we will make an effort to make awards to applicants from historically marginalized communities.
